Joel’s Place AmeriCorps Summer of Service, JPSOS for short, is a great program for local youth and for our local community organizations! Our Members gain new skills and our partner organizations gain extra program support during the summer months.

We strive to collaborate with many nonprofits in the Fairbanks North Star Borough in order to provide our Members with a variety of intriguing service opportunities and to distribute our program community service hours throughout our region. We support programs that address pertinent community issues within our four service areas – education, public safety, health and the environment.

Joel’s Place AmeriCorps Summer of Service enrolls 30 Members between the ages of 16 and 25. Most Members provide 450 hours of service. Some Members can serve 300 hours. In order to receive placement of a JPSOS member we require your organization to provide the following:

     • an opportunity that is an unmet need in your agency
     • a service-learning environment
     • supervision and time sheet check-off
     • site specific training
     • end of session Member evaluation
