| Program Description: A primary objective of Alaska IPL is to bridge social and environmental causes by developing green collar job initiatives across the state. As a Youth Energy Auditor, you would be working towards this goal by conducting meaningful energy efficiency services for senior citizens, low-income families and single parents living in the Fairbanks/North Pole area. Not only would you be learning viable work skills but you would also be making a positive difference in the lives of well-deserving members of the Fairbanks community. Specific Duties: The Youth Energy Auditor (YEA) will be responsible for: 1. Improving the energy efficiency of at least 25 homes by installing caulking, weather-stripping, low-flow showerheads, efficient lighting;* 2. Educating clients about the importance of energy efficiency both in terms of conservation and saving money; and 3. Giving at least one 15-20 minute presentation to City/Borough leaders about your experience as a YEA and the value of the services you provided. * YEA’s will be trained by professional energy auditors Necessary Skills:

Joel’s Place’s Youth Garden was created by JPSOS’08 members last summer to provide youth with an opportunity to grow food for our food programs and to beautify our yard. Specific Duties: The JPSOSSummer Food Service & YouthGardenAssistant will help gather, grow, harvest, prepare and serve food at Joel’s Place. Thirty young people offer their skills and talents through the donation of their time in the Fairbanks Community. Specific Duties: The Member designated as the Spirit of the Corps Director will be responsible for helping to build team spirit through 1) capturing the skills and talents of the rest of the team in action using video & camera, 2) assist in planning team activities for Thursday night Team Meetings, 3) maintain a photo journal of our Summer of Service, 4) maintain a blog site for family and friends wanting to stay informed, and 5) organize evening or weekend events for JPSOS Members. | Program Description: Careline is a 24-7 crisis intervention call-in center for all ages but is specifically developing a project in conjunction with Joel’s Place, called Project Safety Net. Project Safety Net will raise community awareness of the issues of runaway and homeless youth in the Fairbanks North Star Borough. Specific Duties: PSN Educator will assist in developing community partnerships with businesses, agencies, and local youth to begin National Safe Place program, a collaboration between Careline, Joel’s Place and Presbyterian Hospitality House. Other duties include recruiting volunteers for video camp, participating in PSN task force meetings, and also assisting program staff at Careline with creating a youth friendly on-line presence. Necessary Skills: • Able to keep confidentiality • Strong communication and speaking skills • Maturity and sensitivity towards others

Gap ministries include 6 firewood lots located at different churches. Another Gap ministry is the Personal Needs Closet at a church that provides toiletries and diapers to those in need. Specific Duties: The Gap Ministry Assistant will organize the existing Gap ministries as well as assist the Love INC office in coordinating churches to start new ones (like household items, winter wear, school supplies, etc). To ascertain resources lacking in the community, the GM Assistant will update the resource information database. Additionally, the GM Assistant will organize community youth groups to get involved with Love INC. Youth involvement will be jump started through organizing a “Sound Off for Poverty” campaign. | Program Description: ABO provides training opportunities for persons interested in biology and/or education through our internship program. Interns learn scientific skills, techniques, and methods through participation in research, education, and outreach. Specific Duties: Banding Interns assist ABO Research Biologists and Passerine Banders with along term monitoring program at the Creamer’s Field Migration Station in Fairbanks, Alaska. Banding Interns will focus on mist-netting and extraction techniques, bird identification, and helping to lead bird- demonstrations during the migration seasons. Typically four days of the week are spent at the banding station and one day is spent entering data in the computer and assisting with various maintenance tasks. Necessary Skills:

| Program Description: ABO provides training opportunities for persons interested in biology and/or education through our internship program. Specific Duties: Education Interns will learn to conduct bird-banding presentations, assist with our songbird migration study and guide four to six 10-12 year old youth in our Tree Swallow breeding ecology study. Other duties include helping to publicize, schedule and lead interpretive walks; giving presentations relating to bird identification and ecology to visitors of all ages, including youth groups and tourists; and assisting with the planning and operation of the Alaska Bird Camps.
