Joel’s Place AmeriCorps is currently recruiting young people, 17 or older to serve in a Fairbanks elementary school from January 2nd-May 17th, 2011. Joel’s Place AmeriCorps is a service program that provides leadership and valuable work experience, giving members the opportunity to further explore their own interests while they serve their community. In exchange for their volunteering, members receive a monthly living allowance and an education award.

The member placed in this position will lead a Walking Club, engage students in structured play during recess, and serve in kindergarten and physical education classrooms in a Fairbanks elementary school. The position will be 35 hours a week, Monday through Friday, from 7:30am to 3pm or 8am to 3:30pm.

The member serving in this position will receive a monthly living allowance of $540 for a total of $2,700. Upon the successful completion of 675 hours of service, the member will also receive a $2,038 Pell Education Grant Award, valid for 7 years, which can be used for future tuition costs or to repay certain student loans. Being an AmeriCorps member also provides access to other types of training, post-program job assistance, and a wide network of alums.

Joel’s Place  AmeriCorps Seasons of Service, JPSOS for short, provides service opportunities for young people at least 17 years of age throughout the year. We do this by placing the young person with an agency or organization. As part of the AmeriCorps program, our members have the opportunity to gain valuable professional experience, receive site-specific and general job-readiness training, and grow as an individual! Joel’s Place recognizes the potential of young people to make a difference in their communities through service.  JPSOS AmeriCorps members will have an opportunity to BE the difference they want to see.
